The Roundabout Hobo is a quick little (medium) bag that is perfect for large print or heavyweight fabric. It is unstructured, using simple pleats at the bottom to add depth. This allows for you to forget your foam, batting, and stabilizers and eliminates time consuming gusset seams and base insertions without resorting to a basic rectangle. Using less than a yard of exterior fabric, this is the perfect bag for stash busting, for matching every outfit, for gifts, and for making to sell.
Since most of my bags are designed for quilting cotton, I wanted something that would work with all the thicker fabrics in my stash. Home dec, twill, denim, corduroy, woven flannel, barkcloth, canvas… so many possibilities since you don’t need to worry about the thick layers of stabilizers. The integrated handle eliminates the need for hardware, and the design saves time cutting and sewing… making this a relatively inexpensive and quick bag to sew, especially if you aren’t waiting a week for rings and sliders to arrive!
This is a sling bag, a hobo… it’s not a bag with structure and organization. Since the puffy shape leaves us with only the option of small patch pockets, I have *finally* included the instructions for my cleanly finished welt zipper pocket. No raw edges and no exposed zipper tape! I was waiting for the perfect bag… one that needed to have a zippered inside pocket… and this was it!
